6th Kartika Purnima - 2023
Odia Socio Cultural Association, Netherlands (OSCAN), marked the 6th Kartika Purnima at Almere’s De Ruimte community center, fashioning it into a lively Mini Odisha. Attended by numerous Odia families from across the Netherlands, the event featured cultural performances, a Boita-making competition, and a tempting spread of Odia cuisine. Mr. Devender Arya, Councillor from the Indian Embassy, applauded OSCAN for championing Odisha’s culture overseas. The festivities included the enchanting sight of Boitas sailing in canals, captivating local residents.
OSCAN’s Core team, orchestrated the event seamlessly, with dedicated volunteers providing valuable support. The celebration, sponsored by partners like AAONXT – Odisha, Nobel Hypotheken, Etia Consulting, Geeksoft, Prilk, and InnoverenIT, showcased the growing success of the annual tradition that began in 2017 with a small group but has since evolved into a major cultural event.
The festival commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting near Lord Jagannath, setting the tone for a day filled with cultural richness. Various attractions, including Jagannath Bhajan, Odissi Dance, and Sambalpuri Dance, added to the vibrancy. The event not only fostered cultural exchange but also strengthened the sense of community among Odias living in the Netherlands, making it a memorable and joyous occasion.
